All Fours, Miranda July
A strangely subversive tale of middle age. The desperate need to find oneself in relation or out of one, to try to survive motherhood and the traumas that it both brings and reminds us of, and that over large billboard sign in your head that starts flashing “Menopause ahead: beware the twists and turns”. Graphically sexual and body focused, but still emotional and heady. A fascinating read.

The Measure
The Measure by Nikki Erlick. “One of the best modern fiction books I have read! Needless to say, as a bookseller, I read a lot. Finally it’s available in paperback, just in time for your summer road trip. It is a very thought provoking subject. Eight lives intertwine when they are given the hard choice of whether they want to know how long they are going to live.I read it with a book club and I highly recommend reading it with someone so you can discuss it after. I can’t wait to see what this author writes next.” - Penny

Family hosts needed
Since 1980, The Children's Center has sponsored The Summer Program. Modeled after a summer camp, The Summer Program provides mothers and children with the opportunity for quality time, mother-child bonding, and fun-filled activities. We bring children from all over New York State, as well as out-of-state, to visit their mothers for 5 consecutive days. We run these programs from late June until mid-August. Each program begins on a Sunday and ends on a Thursday. The children visit with their mothers from 9am to 3pm daily. Host Families are asked to drop off the children by 8:50am and pick the children up at 3pm each day. It means so much to both the mothers and children we serve to have this opportunity to spend quality time together. For many children, this is the only occasion all year that they visit their mothers. Equally rewarding for the children is staying with a Host Family, spending time together and getting to know each other…

Book Club: “I Hope This Finds You Well”
Discussion July 6 at 3pm. “As far as Jolene is concerned, her interactions with her colleagues should start and end with her official duties as an admin for Supershops, Inc. Unfortunately, her irritating, incompetent coworkers don't seem to understand the importance of boundaries. Her secret to survival? She vents her grievances in petty email postscripts, then changes the text color to white so no one can see. That is until one of her secret messages is exposed. Her punishment: sensitivity training (led by the suspiciously friendly HR guy, Cliff) and rigorous email restrictions...”
