Memoir Book Club and Workshop

5 years ago Celia Hirsch took on the unlikely task of writing a Memoir. All she’d ever written was daily journal entries. She had an uncanny hunch that chronicling her story would bring her closer to understanding the issues that she struggled with. Not only did that happen but she discovered a truth that would have eluded her had she not had the courage to write.

Throughout the process several questions nagged at her but none more arresting than, “Who cares about my story?” Luckily she was undeterred and many people have read her book. It’s their feedback that is the framework for this event. To a person she began hearing personal story after story, which concluded with the lament, “I’d love to write a book about my life but who would ever read it?”

Celia envisions a conversation where she can share her experience and hopefully dispel misconceptions, which stand in the way of anyone’s wish to document their life. She hopes that people will be inspired to dive in.

The group will be reading Celia’s memoir “Telling” and discussing her story and the writing of memoirs in general. Celia will share her tips and experience with publishing her memoir. January 31st at 2pm. Please pick up your copy at the Katonah Reading Room and sign up to attend below.
