Catching Sight: How a Guide Dog Helped Me See Myself

Deni Elliott is a Project Co-Director for the National Ethics Poject and Professor Emerita in the Department of Journalism and Digital Communication at the University of South Florida. During her 20-year tenure at USF, she held the endowed Eleanor Poynter Jamison Chair in Media Ethics and Press Policy and served in several leadership roles, including Interim Regional Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Department Chair, and Campus Ombuds. She is also a subject matter expert for the National Center on Disability and Journalism.

Deni has authored more than 200 articles and book chapters for scholarly, trade, and general audiences and has published 11 books. Her newest book, Catching Sight: How a Guide Dog Helped Me See Myself, shares her personal journey and the profound impact her guide dog has had on her life.

Guiding Eyes for the Blind provides guide dogs to people with vision loss. We are passionate about connecting exceptional dogs with individuals for greater independence. Guiding Eyes is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with all services provided completely free of charge. At Guiding Eyes, we rely upon the contributions of our generous donors to fulfill our mission. We work out of our Headquarters and Training Center in Yorktown Heights, New York; our Canine Development Center in Patterson, New York; and our Urban Training Center in White Plains, New York. Guiding Eyes is an accredited member of the International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF), the organization that establishes worldwide standards for the breeding and training of guide dogs.
